Make your own hours, work from anywhere, be your own boss, get rewarded for the effort you put it. Sounds great doesn't it? Is it a little too good to be true? Well like anything, you get out what you put in. Making money online isn't easy. You don't just turn on your computer and money gets deposited into your account. But if you want it badly enough, you'll put in the work, upskill, and change your life. There are lots of ways to make money online, so below we've listed the best work from home jobs based on the reward for effort. Many of these require little to no initial investment, so you can get started right away.

 So that's enough of me banging on, here are the best work from home jobs to make money online;

1. Affiliate marketing

One of the most pervasive methods of making money online, Affiliate marketing is happening right under your nose.  You know when see ads, or someone links to product (like this)? Chances are that's an affiliate link. If you click on that link and then take a desired action like buying it or signing up for a free trial. The website that had the link you clicked on, gets paid a commission. It's like a freelance marketing company that only gets paid on a successful sale. Business love it because the only need to pay their freelance marketers (aka affiliates) when they get a sale, and the affiliates love it because they can make money online, work the hours they want, and only work for products they believe in.

 Affiliate marketing is great as you don't need to have a product or service of your own to sell. You can market other people's products and services and get paid if someone buys them (or in some cases when someone clicks a link or signs up to a free trial).

So if you can learn how to create ads, or drive traffic to a website, then you can create quite a good living out of affiliate marketing. Take Nerdwallet for example. It generates revenue from affiliate marketing, and is now worth an estimated $500 million, with revenues in excess of $100 million per year. Now obviously that's the very pointy end of success, but there are many affiliate marketers making  > $500,000 profit per year and even if you are just looking for part time income working from home, you can make it here.

2. Transcription

Can you type? Fast & accurately I mean, not finger picking with your index finger?

Yeah then you can start making money right now, by typing up peoples audio and video files.  Services like Rev, TranscribeMe! and Same Day Transcriptions take people's audio and transcribe it.  This saves people having to type their own notes, and even allows people to upload the transcription to YouTube videos, which makes them search engine friendly. Even in today's AI infused world, those transcriptions are done by people to get the highest levels of accuracy.  Sure AI can do it, but its still making a lot of mistakes, especially where people have an accent or don't enunciate enough.

Being a transcriber, you can work from anywhere you have a computer and an internet connection, any time, and you don't need to talk to anyone. Great to fit in a few hours while the kids are asleep/at school.

How much can you make?

Rev says the average monthly earnings are $245, and the top earners are $1,495, while Transcribe Me says it works out at $15-$22 per audio hour, with their average at $250 per month and top earners at $2,200.

Even at $15 per hour if you snuck in just 3 hours a day  before and after your regular job, that's ~$50 per day or up to $350 per week, $1,400 per month, ~ $18,000 per year!

3. Bookkeeping

Small business is the lifeblood of the economy and they need help to collate and enter income and expenses. And although software like Receiptbank, Hubdoc, Xero and Quickbooks is automating portions of this, good bookkeepers are still required to set it up, review it and query unknown transactions.  Knowing which accounts to put transactions to is vitally important so business owners can make decisions about their business, and get their taxes right. Many people think they can start bookkeeping without any accounting knowledge, but if you want rise above, give a better result to your clients, and get referrals you need to know what you're doing.  Doing a short course, is great way to get started.  Once that's done, you start your own business and start marketing as a 100% online bookkeeping business to get clients and away you go. You can be doing the bookkeeping for businesses nationwide whilst sitting in your home office.

4. Etsy store

For those with a creative side, Etsy is a great way to start your own business and get brand awareness. Access worldwide customers build out a business from your home based studio. To get started search on Etsy for what is selling, what your competitors are doing and the prices they are charging, then start designing your product for a price point and what customers like. Then get to it. I know of artists that sell 1 x (smaller) painting per week at $400. That sets them up with a minimum annual income of $20,000 for a piece that only takes them 4-8 hours per week. $400 also isn't a huge investment in art, so its affordable for a large part of the target market. Plus they get a one of a kind original art work to hang in their home or office.

Combine your Etsy store with marketing on Instagram and Pinterest and drive traffic to your store, create brand awareness and watch your sales take off!

5. Amazon/Ebay stores

Amazon & Ebay stores can create a business opportunity for a wide variety of people. Businesses using it as another channel to sell and distribute in both home and overseas markets, through to 100% online, automated drop shipping businesses.

But don't let logistics scare you off this. You no longer need to design and execute the packing, picking, and returns. Instead you can use the strength and slickness of Amazon's supply chain via their Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service.  Basically your supplier ships direct to Amazon's warehouse. They store it, you get an order, Amazon picks and packs it and delivers it to your customer. Obviously they charge you a fee for this, but so does every option you've got.

With FBA you've got to have the financial capacity and the obligation to buy inventory and wait for it to sell and collect the cash money.  This can create a serious drain on your cash flow and make scaling very difficult.

With drop shipping, you don't have any inventory. Instead you have an agreement with your supplier that when you get an order, they'll sell the product to you, but instead of sending it to your warehouse (or Amazon's) they send it straight to the customer.  It's important that you understand and comply with Amazon's policy on this.  One because it creates a better experience for your customer, and second because Amazon can and will suspend your account.

6. Freelance

If you've got skills like web design, copy writing, consulting, accounting, legal and heaps of others, you can provide your expertise to those with a project at hand. You get to work on different projects with different clients, keeping things fresh and interesting, and many of the projects can be completed 100% online.

Of course some platforms are a race to the bottom in price, others are more about finding the right person for the project. If you've got the experience and a portfolio of work you can use as examples, you should consider freelancing, using platforms like upwork, fiverr, expert360 and envato.

7. Blogging

Blogging is no longer amateurs with a wordpress site or a tumblr account. Blogging is business. But like any business, this can take time and hard work to make money online. Being a great writer isn't enough (or really required at all), but having a different take on things, something interesting to say and the ability to drive traffic to your site is.  Once you've got the traffic, it's all about how you can make money out of it.  Most people immediately think of advertising, but that is only one way, you can also make this one of the best work from home jobs through;

  • Affiliate marketing (I told you this was pervasive)
  • Advertising
  • Sell your own product (courses, ebooks, memberships)
  • Sponsored posts
